Creating Memories That Matter: Thank You to Konnor Griffin, Our July Community Partner

At One Day to Remember, we are continually inspired by the people who use their platform to make a difference in the lives of others. This July, we are honored to recognize Konnor Griffin as our Community Partner of the Month.

Konnor's support extends far beyond sharing our mission. He has taken the time to meet the families we serve, hear their stories, and help shine a light on what it means to create meaningful memories in the face of advanced-stage cancer.

This month, Konnor joined us in celebrating an unforgettable day for Gillian and her family.

Gillian is just 38 years old and has dedicated her career to caring for others as a palliative care nurse practitioner. In 2019, shortly after her son, Theo, celebrated his second birthday, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. After months of treatment, she believed she had overcome the disease and was looking forward to the future.

Then, just a few weeks ago, everything changed.

After experiencing sudden hearing loss, Gillian learned that her cancer had returned as Stage IV metastatic breast cancer. Doctors discovered a tumor in her skull that was causing the hearing loss, turning what had been an ordinary symptom into life-changing news.

Like so many families we serve, Gillian, her fiancé Ben, and their son Theo suddenly found themselves navigating a new reality. Plans for an October wedding were put on hold as treatments, appointments, and difficult decisions took priority. Instead of focusing on wedding details, their focus became something even more important: making memories together.

Theo is an energetic 8-year-old with one big passion . . . the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Knowing that, our team planned a special One Day to Remember experience at PNC Park, giving the family an opportunity to step away from cancer for a day and simply enjoy being together. It was a day filled with smiles, baseball, and precious moments that will be treasured for years to come.

Following the outing, Konnor shared Gillian's story with his community, writing that her One Day to Remember was "the highlight of my year."

Those simple words speak volumes about why our mission matters.

When families receive a devastating diagnosis, they don't stop being parents. Children don't stop wanting to laugh, explore, cheer for their favorite team, or spend time with the people they love. A One Day to Remember offers families the chance to press pause on treatments and uncertainty, even if only for a day, and focus instead on making memories together.

This outing was especially meaningful because it marks the second One Day to Remember family Konnor has had the opportunity to meet. His continued willingness to engage with our families, listen to their stories, and use his platform to raise awareness helps more people understand the realities of living with advanced-stage cancer and the importance of supporting the entire family.

We are incredibly grateful for Konnor's compassion, generosity, and commitment to helping families create moments that will last a lifetime.

Thank you, Konnor, for standing alongside One Day to Remember and for reminding others that sometimes the greatest gift we can give is simply the opportunity to make another memory.

Together, we are making more memories possible!
